Vehicles like the Land Rover Discovery Sport must be adaptable to highway and off-road driving conditions. Not many years ago, drivers that switched from highway to off-road driving were required to manually change from two-wheel to four-wheel drive. Today, Land Rover engineers have utilized new technologies to ease the changeover for the driver.

In the Land Rover Discovery Sport engineers included the Active Driveline. The Discovery Sport comes with a monitoring system that analyses the upcoming terrain and sends the information to the central computer. The computer then switches the drive between the fuel-saving two-wheel drive recommended on the highway and the four-wheel drive recommended for off-road activity. The change does not take long—only 300 milliseconds.
